What are Pantone Colours?

What are pantone colours? If you have ever dealt with branding or printing before you are sure to have heard of the term "Pantone", but what exactly does that mean?

Basically it is a colour reference number.

Because most branding manuals are very strict, it is vital that the print colour of your logo always remain the exact same colour. This was how the Pantone Matching System (PMS) was born.

Although this universal colour recognition system is now used across the globe, it was originally started by a printing company in the US in the 1950's.

This amazing colour pallet contained 1 114 spot colours, all with a specific reference number and often a funky name. These exact reference numbers made it easy for manufacturers around the world to match colours without having direct contact with one another.

Pantone colours are even used for some country flags, to ensure that each flag made looks exactly the same!
